Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol used to encrypt the data exchanged between a hosting server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to protect the data that customers submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run a web-based store, and so on. Any data they type in in any box on the website will be submitted securely to the server, so their login or payment details will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Normally, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be installed, which means the overall cost for your web presence shall be bigger. While this might not be an issue for a larger business, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store that doesn't generate big revenue if additional money should be spent. That's the main reason why we have taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Website Hosting

You shall be able to use this option with all our website hosting plans and with any SSL certificate issued from any dealer. If you decide to use an SSL from our company, everything can be set up automatically and you will not have to do anything after you buy and approve the certificate. The SSL order wizard will permit you to select a shared IP address to be used and the SSL to be installed by our system, so using this feature requires only 2 additional mouse clicks after you fill the necessary details for the certificate. The appropriate functioning of the SSL shall not be affected in any way and any details which visitors submit on your website shall be encrypted and protected in the same exact way. The sole difference from working with a dedicated address is that http:// will not open your site, but it is extremely unlikely that anybody will ever try to access it that way instead of typing your domain inside the browser URL bar.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The shared IP address option is available with all Linux semi-dedicated hosting and the setup takes merely 2 clicks inside the hosting Control Panel irrespective if you buy an SSL through our enterprise or through a third-party provider. There shall not be any difference with regards to how the certificate operates or encodes the data your website visitors submit, so your website shall be protected without having to spend the extra money for a dedicated IP. The one thing which will be different is that https://the-shared-IP won't open your site, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it's quite unlikely that anybody shall ever try to access your site in this way as opposed to inputting your domain. Additionally we offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs ordered through our company and if you select it and you decide to use a shared IP address rather than a dedicated one, our system shall set everything up the moment the SSL is approved and issued without the need for any action on your end.
